If anything can counter the natural depression or listlessness that haunts everybody, it is enthusiasm. That spark of interest that comes from our deepest resources and drives us ... through just about anything.

When we have some hope for the future and the grit to make our way toward it we are often blessed with enthusiasm. Sometimes enthusiasm shines its light by itself; I don't pretend to know how. Sometimes this state of mind and soul doesn't come easily and we have to search for it--find out where it's hiding! But with the slightest earnestness of character, we're certain to find it.

Lighting the Path

The genius of enthusiasm forges accomplishment
that robs endurance of hardship,
sustenance through bleak days.

Enthusiasm is the beacon lighting the trail.
It warns of rock shards and cliff falls
that crop up unexpectedly along the way.

To thrive is to cultivate the wisdom of enthusiasm.
It is among human nature's sacred endowments,
cornerstone of merit, foundation of strength.
